Tudor's Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants’ achieve huge volunteering hours total

The Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award participants at Tudor Hall have received a certificate from the organisation celebrating a huge volunteering total notched up between April 2024 and March 2025. Tudor Hall girls have volunteered an amazing 1,833 hours of their time in this period – that is equivalent to more than 76 days of volunteering!

The DofE has calculated that the social value of these hours to the communities involved is a massive £11,730.

In the last 12 months, Tudor girls have volunteered in a huge variety of ways for a range of organisations and causes, including: writing letters and being pen-pals with senior citizens, teaching in local primary schools, dog walking, running sporting clubs, supporting the local Brownie pack, fundraising for Unicef, typing up historical documents for the online National Archive, assisting in the art, textiles and ceramics departments, babysitting and gardening.

Ruth Marvel OBE, CEO of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to see the impact that young people at Tudor Hall have made through their DofE volunteering. Volunteering is a great way for young people to build confidence, develop work-related skills and use their passions and talents to benefit others. It changes lives and communities for the better – that's why it’s an integral part of the DofE programme.”

To do their DofE Awards, young people choose activities in four sections: improving a Physical and Skills activity, Volunteering for a cause of their choice, and completing a demanding Expedition. Along the way they have fun, grow in resilience and self-belief, discover new talents and passions, and learn practical skills to help them in future – while working towards a highly respected Award.
