Wellbeing is at the heart of everything at Tudor, where extraordinary pastoral care is the norm.
Extraordinary pastoral care
Extraordinary pastoral care supports every girl at Tudor. Our child-centred approach ensures that girls are actively aware of their wellbeing, it is naturally a part of everyday conversations, and there is always someone for our pupils to turn to.
Essentially, Tudor is a happy place to be, where kindness is modelled by every member of our community and is the foundation of our relationships.
Our horizontal boarding structure – for all day and boarding girls - means that Housemistresses and their teams are experts in the age-specific needs of their year group, while small tutor groups allow Tutors to know and value every girl.
Our pastoral team
In addition, other members of the pastoral team provide specific support when needed:
- Registered school nurses provide 24-hour care in the Health Centre.
- Our resident Chaplain offers spiritual guidance and a confidential listening service (regardless of faith).
- School counsellors, to whom pupils can self-refer or be referred
- Life coach
- Mental Health Lead
We recognise our privileged position in being entrusted with the care of young people and encourage liaison between home and school to provide the very best care and support for them during their time with us.
Our Child Protection and Safeguarding policy is available here and, along with all school policies, copies are available upon request.
Chaplaincy
Tudor was established by people of faith in 1850, and that faith is still lived out in the life and ethos of the school. It is a vital strand of who we are, and why so many parents choose to send their girls to Tudor.
Girls attend whole school assemblies on Mondays and Fridays, and have Chapel on Sundays, where girls are challenged to think more broadly and more deeply about contemporary issues and matters of importance. This is echoed in Year group Assemblies, Confirmation classes, in our visits to the places of worship of other faiths, and through Multi-Faith Week. It is also why Tudor supports a local youth homelessness charity and the work of our outreach programme, Tudor in Three Continents (Ti3C) so strongly.
The role of the Chaplaincy at Tudor means that Rev Mark Jones is available to all of the girls, their families and all who work at, or have a connection with, Tudor; to people of all faiths and none. He offers a listening ear that can help clarify complex situations.
Supporting girls to find their place in the world: a Child Psychotherapist's view of Tudor Hall
"I refer girls to Tudor Hall because its staff understand the individual needs of their pupils while providing all-round care, intellectual challenge and varied academic programmes suited to children of every type of talent.
The school stands in beautiful countryside providing a very safe environment. Its pastoral team is highly trained and experienced in seeing all the factors bearing on a particular child’s welfare. Tudor Hall girls are kind, and leave school with good academic credentials, a strong footing in the real world, and a positive sense of their own capabilities."
