Embark on a journey of tennis and academic excellence with the Tudor Hall Tennis Academy (THTA)
We believe in a holistic approach to tennis development. Every girl who has an interest in tennis should have the opportunity to play, and to reach their full potential in a motivating, fun and aspirational environment. The Academy programme is designed to cater to players at all levels, from beginners to elite, providing tailored coaching that aligns with each girl’s aspirations, abilities and academic commitments.
Coaching
We currently provide extra tennis opportunities to more than 50% of Tudor pupils, who benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experience provided by our four LTA Level 3 and one LTA Level 4 tennis coaches. The team includes former professional player Lucy Brown, who reached the world’s top 600 in singles in the WTA rankings. The Academy is led by Tudor’s Head of Tennis Sam Edwards, a former national and international level player and graduate of the University of Bath, renowned for its tennis programme.
Tennis Academy programme
Tudor Hall is an LTA registered venue set in 45 acres of parkland grounds here on the edge of the Cotswolds. All tennis coaching takes place on site.
The programme is structured to provide tennis opportunities over and above the sport and PE curriculum at Tudor, from newcomers to the sport to those looking to compete at national level and beyond. This is achieved through a combination of individual and group lessons, supplemented with personalised fitness and strength and conditioning plans. Girls are assessed regularly and placed at an appropriate level within the programme. Girls who wish to apply for Elite Level tennis programme can also be considered for a potential scholarship.
Development Level: For newcomers and players with basic proficiency aiming to enhance technique and understanding of match play, whilst enjoying the game of tennis.
Performance Level: For competitive players seeking to refine skills and participate in school and regional competitions; 2 to 6 hours a week of tennis training, fitness and matches.
Elite Level: For top-tier athletes targeting national-level tournaments and potential university scholarships in the USA or UK; 6+ hours a week of tennis training, fitness and matches; programme tailored to the individual.
Competitive play
Our Tennis Academy encourages regular participation in competitive play to foster growth and resilience in the sport. Girls have opportunities to compete in LTA-sanctioned events throughout the year and school fixtures with other institutions. These experiences are integral to each player’s development, providing real-world challenges and exposure to diverse playing styles.
Recent success at Tudor saw our teams in the 2024-2025 season achieving a 80+% win ratio, with several unbeaten. Our Seniors reached the last 16 of the national ISTA (Independent School Tennis Association) competition, and a number of girls participated in international training camps, involving intense coaching and matchplay.
