Sport at Tudor Hall

Sport at Tudor Hall is integral to school life, with opportunities to be involved at every level. We pride ourselves on catering for everyone, from the novice to the elite sportswoman through a fully inclusive programme that has each individual’s needs at its heart.

Sports facilities at Tudor include a heated swimming pool, a floodlit astroturf, a fitness suite and extensive parkland.

We offer weekly fixtures and training for our focus sports; hockey in the Autumn Term, netball in the Spring Term and tennis and cricket in the Summer Term.

Competitive fixtures also take place for lacrosse, swimming, athletics and fencing. We encourage pupils to take part in sport offsite at local clubs; this is an excellent opportunity to meet other young people and to reach higher levels of performance.

Focus Sports: Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Lacrosse

Offsite activities: Banbury Cricket Club, Banbury Hockey Club, Banbury Blues Netball, Banbury Rugby Club, Cricket, Equestrian Squad, Skiing

Sport at Tudor aims to:

  • Deliver high quality teaching and learning across a diverse and balanced sports curriculum, ensuring that every pupil is supported in their physical development.
  • Foster a culture of inspiration and encouragement, where every pupil is motivated to achieve their personal best in competitive sports and physical challenges, regardless of starting point or ability.
  • Promote lifelong healthy habits by encouraging an active lifestyle that will serve young women well beyond their time at Tudor Hall.

Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education activities inspire and empower pupils, whilst building resilience and grit.

Each year group usually starts the year by taking part in a residential weekend, or undertake team-building activities at school. Sessions include water-based activities, such as coasteering, kayaking, gorge-walking and sailing, and activities on land, such as problem-solving, orienteering, climbing and abseiling. Our aim is to push the pupils outside their comfort zone in a safe and supportive environment so they can see what they are capable of.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme (commonly known as DofE) is all about self-development, focussing on helping pupils to improve existing capabilities and gain new talents, skills and perspectives. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (D of E) is available to all pupils at from the Autumn Term of the IIIs (Year 9).

There are three levels of the DofE Award: Bronze (commences in the IIIs), Silver (commences in the IVs), and Gold (commences in the Sixth Form). Within each level there are four sections to be completed: a voluntary activity, a physical recreation, a skill, and the expeditions (one practice, one qualifying). In addition, at Gold level each pupil must attend a five-day residential activity. Training for expeditions and the expeditions themselves take place over long weekends within term time.
