How and why Tudor Hall empowers every girl to flourish

Boarding Todd

Our Vision

To empower every girl to flourish intellectually and make a difference in the world through community and creativity.

Our Values

Our values are the core elements of daily life at Tudor and the qualities that we seek to instil in our pupils to guide them throughout their lives.

Empowerment: To empower every girl to flourish and believe in their own unique abilities. Giving girls the confidence to be themselves and go further than they ever thought possible; Tudor girls can and do.

Creativity: To enable girls to explore possibilities, to take risks and to try new things. Encouraging individuality, to be curious and creative in all their endeavours, to discover what sparks their imagination and grow their ambition.

Scholarship: To allow every girl to discover the joy of learning and the discipline of study through inspirational teaching.

Leadership: To give every girl the confidence and opportunity to lead, and be seen to lead; to equip girls with the skills and attributes to enact change and make a difference in the world beyond school.

Service: To live as part of a truly supportive community that fosters a deep sense of belonging, and to encourage Tudor girls at every step to use their talents for the benefit and service of others.

Kindness: To ensure kindness in all its forms – including respect, compassion, thoughtfulness and tolerance - lies at the heart of Tudor Hall life. Whatever you do, be kind.

Spirit of Tudor

How do we live and breathe our values in daily school life?

Compassionate Tudor

Our core boarding ethos, living and learning together, encourages tolerance and understanding; opportunities to be kind abound – pupils, staff and parents. Wellbeing is at the heart of everything; extraordinary pastoral care includes direct, regular engagement with pupils (Wellbeing Tracker, ROSES) that supports every girl from the earliest possible point that they might need help, as well as comprehensive staff training (such as our innovative House Staff programme, Tutor’s IMPACT, Think Tank). Essentially, Tudor is a happy place to be, where kindness is modelled by every member of our community and is the foundation of our relationships, between pupils of every age, staff, parents, alumnae and friends of the School.

“I was inspired by the older students who helped direct, choreograph and guide us. Their kindness and patience, especially towards the younger actors, left a lasting impression on me.” IIs pupil

Courageous Tudor

A broad and imaginative curriculum is complimented by a hugely rich and diverse co-curricular programme, from VR gaming to drone flying, dog walking to fencing, Rubix cube club to self-defence – to which the girls actively contribute. Tudor girls are not only encouraged to seize every opportunity, but they are supported to take an idea and run with it, such as conceiving and organising a fashion show, or setting up The Autism Project, as EPQ projects. Year after year, exceptional standards are achieved in the creative and performing arts at Tudor, demonstrated by the extensive list of Old Tudorians with successful careers in design, fashion, art, architecture and engineering. Individuality thrives in an environment where, for example, girls need not wear uniform from Year 11, and a sense of playfulness remains, regardless of age. Tudor provides the time, space and safety – in every sense of the words – for girls to discover and be themselves.

I have never met an Old Tudorian who hasn’t spoken about Tudor with sheer admiration and gratitude. It’s a testament to the incredible effect this school has on every girl” LVI pupil

There is an extensive programme of activities for pupils ranging across the arts and including cookery and dog walking so that pupils enhance their range of skills and understanding.” ISI Report, May 2025

“This is why we love Tudor – for bringing out the best in the girls and cultivating and celebrating such individuality.” Parent

Generous Tudor

The unique combination of horizontal boarding houses and the vertical, competitive house system that allows girls of all ages to mix and work together for events and competitions, creates a true community, where warm, sustained relationships thrive. From House music to the Spelling Bee, teamwork, trust, leadership and support come to the fore; Tudor girls are true cheerleaders for each other. Habeo ut dem is our guiding principle, and this generosity of spirit extends to the girls using their talents for the service of others, including a plethora of awareness raising and charitable action locally, nationally and internationally such as the Tudor in Three Continents programme. House spirit means that year group cohorts build an especially close bond, a sisterhood across boarding and day pupils that forges lifelong friendships and connection, evidenced by the thousands of OTs still actively engaged with the school, decades after they step into the wider world. Innovation – academic, co-curricular and pastoral - goes hand in hand with tradition, where ‘so Tudor’ is often the only way to describe something so quintessentially integral to the School that there is no other way to explain it.

This trip truly changed my life, I took so much away from it and it changed my perspective; I want to keep making a difference. I would encourage everyone to volunteer.” LVI pupil about Ti3C

Pupils have access to open areas within boarding houses which help them to build friendships and warm relationships in a cohesive community.” ISI Report, May 2025

Tenacious Tudor

Tudor has been tailoring its unique boarding education to provide the best possible experience and outcomes for girls for 175 years, where they can follow their passions without prejudice, lead and be seen to lead. Tudor Hall is on the High Performance Learning (HPL) pathway, working towards World Class School accreditation, based on cognitive and neuroscience research. The HPL framework and philosophy resonates with Tudor’s vision and values; HPL’s ethos of ‘everyone can’ chimes with the school’s culture and high performance is something that every child can experience. Tudor girls regularly achieve regional and national recognition in their academic, musical, artistic and sporting endeavours, setting them on pathways for successful careers and opening doors to the most prestigious institutions, for example competing for Team GB, studying Classics at Oxford or Fine Art at Central St Martins College. They are prepared well for their future, through comprehensive careers guidance in tandem with a supportive parent and OT body, leading to incredible opportunities such as a Foster and Partners architecture internship, a place at the Jimmy Choo London Fashion Academy or studying at an American university. A Tudor education fosters both aspiration and global awareness, empowering girls to make a difference and find their place in the world.

Teachers help pupils to develop positive attitudes to learning. The provision of structured study time, alongside informal academic support from tutors, reinforces a culture of self-motivation and intellectual engagement. The supportive relationships between pupils and teachers facilitate purposeful working environments.” ISI Report , May 2025

Tudor supports us to pursue excellence in everything we do; we are inspired and eager to bring that level of dedication to our own future careers.
