High Performance Learning (HPL)

Every individual girl begins her Tudor education from a unique starting point. No matter where on the journey she is, success is within reach and, by bringing perseverance, practice and creativity to every challenge – along with other values, attitudes and attributes – she will perform higher than she ever thought possible. 

Given the right teaching and learning approaches, opportunities, motivations, support and practice, every young person can thrive and reach their true potential. The pedagogical tools empower every Tudorian to flourish, across disciplines, from the classroom to the stage to the sports field.  

The 'ways of thinking' and learner behaviours that are woven through their experiences at Tudor provide our girls with confidence and a skill set to succeed in their pathways through higher education, their careers and beyond; they become life ready. 

Tudor followed a 2-year pathway to this point. Prior to accreditation, the School submitted over 100 pieces of evidence including exam results, value-added, lesson resources and girls' achievements across all aspects of school life, as well as a 2,000-word paper reflecting on our High Performance Learning journey. The in-school assessment included observing lessons, co-curricular activities, boarding life, and speaking with both pupils and staff.

The adoption and extremely successful implementation of HPL underpins the central ethos and mission of Tudor Hall, whereby every single pupil is believed in and empowered to be their best selves, breaking down any inhibition. There is a palpable sense of ambition for every child which is driven by the Head and Leadership Team and contributed to by every single member of staff. High Performance Learning has been embedded into every area of school life in a powerful and thoughtful manner that reflects the school’s passion for an all-girls boarding education. 

Every child is given the belief that they can achieve by the school, and through engaging lessons, thoughtful activities and a razor sharp focus on pastoral care, HPL is drawing out the key strength of the school, whereby pupils know the school will never lower their expectations towards each of them. The school is to be highly commended for their approach.

We develop learners using evidence-based research to ensure our pupils are fully prepared for study, work and life. We maximise learning by:

- Setting high expectations in every classroom

- Ensuring all teaching staff are highly skilled and qualified

- Setting challenging work but scaffolding learning so that it is accessible to all learners

- Developing students' understanding of how we learn and the behaviours for learning so that they can work harder, remember more and successfully complete independent tasks

- Ensuring the learning environment is calm and well ordered so that it is conducive to learning

The HPL framework encourages the development of key learning values, attitudes and attributes (VAAs); these are applied across the academic, co-curricular and pastoral life of the School. Teaching and learning is designed to strengthen Advanced Cognitive Performance (ACP) skills such as:

Linking – applying theory to practice

Analysing – evaluating outcomes and acting on feedback

Creating – original thinking and interpretation

Meta-thinking – reflecting on progress and refining strategies
