With a plethora of subjects to choose from, Tudor girls can pursue the combination of GCSE courses that are best suited to their skills and talents. 

All pupils take the core subjects of English Language (sat in the November of Vs/Year 11) and English Literature and Mathematics, along with either Combined 'Dual' Science (equivalent to two GCSEs) or Triple Science (equivalent to three GCSEs), along with four additional option subjects. This means that most Tudor girls will study for 9 or 10 GCSEs in total.

Art

What will the girls learn?

To draw and paint with a better understanding of purpose and techniques and use these skills to develop skills in etching, ceramics and oil painting. 

To develop a curiosity for artists and techniques in the art world which link to their chosen theme

To learn how to stretch their imagination using their research to develop bespoke ideas. 

To learn how to plan and refine their ideas and skills to realise their intentions within a given timescale.

Who is the course for?

If you enjoy drawing, making things, being creative and having the challenge of creating your own piece of art work after a sustained period of research and experimentation, then you will enjoy this course. You need to work hard to create the necessary body of work, detailed research to truly understand your chosen topic before taking risks and using your imagination to create an exciting portfolio of work which expresses your own ideas and demonstrates the skills you have accomplished. 

Where will this course take the girls?

Creativity, thinking outside the box and problem solving are all skills sought after by employers. More specifically, this course will develop the skills to succeed at a further level and support your future  applications in the future to become an architect, ceramicist, Fine Artist, Surface designer, product designer, teacher, art therapist, auctioneer, art historian, conservationist and landscape architect. These are all jobs of OTs who pursued Art at GCSE and A Level. 

After a GCSE in Arts, Crafts and Design you will have the confidence to move on up to A level which will further improve your skills in readiness for a degree course and a creative future. 

Biology

Classical Civilisation

What will the girls learn?

In OCR GCSE Classical Civilisation, students will explore more the captivating worlds of the ancient Greeks and Romans, learning more about their history, culture, society and literature (in English translations). There are two modules that we will study: ‘Women in the Ancient World’ and ‘the Homeric World’. In ‘the Homeric World’, students will learn more the bronze age civilisations of Greece, looking at the sites of Mycenae, Tiryns and Troy and the astonishing archaeological discoveries made there. The will also study sections of Homer’s ‘Odyssey’, one of the oldest pieces of Western literature, following the journey of wily Odysseus as he returns home from Troy, battling men, monsters and the will of the gods to return home to his family. In ‘Women in the Ancient World’, we will study the lives of Roman and Greek women, looking at their roles both in the home and in religion, the power of women and some examples of famous and infamous women of both Rome and Greece.

Who is the course for?

This course is for those who are fascinated by the ancient world and want to learn more about it. It covers lots of different areas, including history, politics, literature, sociology, geography and art. It is an excellent choice for those who have many interests, as well as giving linking to many other academic subjects, many of which develop from the original studies of the Roman and Classical Greek worlds.

GCSE Classical Civilisation gives its students excellent analytical and evaluative skills, which will enhance study of any future A Level subjects. It provides a strong foundation for further study at A Level of a range of humanities subjects, including Classical Civilisation, English, History, History of Art, Politics, Religious Studies, as well as the skills and human insight that are valued for subjects such as Psychology, Business Studies, Economics and more.

Computer Science

What will the pupils learn?
The Computer Science GCSE provides a dynamic and forward-thinking exploration of how digital technologies underpin our world. What will the girls learn?

Students develop both traditional workshop techniques and modern digital approaches, gaining confidence in bringing their own ideas to life. Previous experience in Design and Technology at school is advantageous, but the course is accessible to anyone with a passion for designing and making. Where will this course take the girls?

After completing IGCSE Design & Technology, students can progress to A Level Product Design and other related creative subjects, and later into further study in areas such as architecture, engineering, industrial design, interior design, graphic communication, UX/UI, or fashion and jewellery design. Drama

EDUCAS Drama GCSE

What will the girls learn?

The EDUCAS Drama GCSE course will offer you a dynamic and engaging opportunity to explore the world of theatre and performance. Throughout the course, pupils will develop a wide range of creative and analytical skills by working practically and theoretically. You will learn how to devise original drama, interpret and perform existing scripts, and evaluate live theatre productions. The course encourages experimentation with different styles and genres, helping you to build HPL skills of confidence, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. In addition, you will deepen your understanding of key theatrical elements such as staging, lighting, costume, and characterisation, enhancing their ability to analyse and appreciate both their own work and that of others.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for pupils who enjoy creative expression and are interested in performance, storytelling, or stagecraft. It is suitable for pupils who are enthusiastic about working in groups, open to exploring new ideas, and willing to take creative risks. Whether you aspire to be on stage or behind the scenes, the course nurtures all aspects of theatre-making and offers a supportive environment for all experience levels. Passion and curiosity are more important than prior acting experience. You can follow the performer pathway or the designer pathway (Costume, Lighting. Set). This course is ideal if you prefer to work steadily over two years as 60% of the work is completed in five terms. 40% is based on a short written exam.

Where will this course take you?

The EDUCAS Drama GCSE can lead you in a variety of exciting directions. It provides a strong foundation for A Level Drama and Theatre and can also support progression into other creative or analytical fields such as English, Humanities and other essay based subjects. Beyond formal education, the course will equip you with essential life skills — such as confidence, empathy, and communication—that are highly valued in careers from law and education to politics, marketing and the arts. Ultimately, this course will help you to find your voice, tell powerful stories, and appreciate the impact of drama in the wider world.

English Language

What will the girls learn?

The girls will learn how to analyse written English both for bias and for its intrinsic beauty, and then in turn how to write powerfully and purposefully.

Who is the course for?

The course is for everyone! The texts are short and accessible and understanding how people try to influence us with words is vital in the modern world - as well as learning how to express ourselves clearly and cogently.

Where will this course take the girls?

A GCSE in English Language is a key foundation stone for navigating life. Everyone needs to find information and be able to assess its veracity and potential bias. Everyone also needs to be able to express themselves in an accurate, clear and influential way. Finally, everyone needs a bit of literature in their lives. This GCSE leads perfectly onto any A Level, as it is a blend of writing skills and artistry.

English Literature

What will the girls learn?

The girls will learn how to appreciate the beauty of plays, poetry and a novel, and how to explore and evaluate that beauty in essay form.

Who is the course for?

The course is for the vast majority of students, for whom it is taught hand-in-hand with English Language IGCSE. For many it is the last chance to dive deeply into a major work of literature such as 'Macbeth'.

Where will this course take the girls?

This IGCSE is a good indicator of potential future success with A Levels which involve the appreciation of art in any form, and A Levels which involve substantial amounts of reading and writing, such as English Literature, History, Politics, Psychology and Religious Studies.

Food & Nutrition

GCSE (Eduqas) Food Preparation and Nutrition

What will the girls learn?

Studying for this qualification will enable you to make connections between theory and practical cooking so that you are able to apply your understanding of food science and nutrition to the dishes you make. Along with learning practical skills, you will also gain knowledge in food commodities, nutrition, diet and good health, food science and food provenance. Each week you will complete both a practical and a theory lesson enabling you to build up a sound knowledge of diet and good health. Furthermore, you will explore a range of ingredients and techniques from different culinary traditions to inspire and modify existing recipes. You will be assessed through practical coursework and a written exam at the end of the Vs (Year 11).

Who is the course for?

Anyone who has a love of food, cooking and science. This diverse qualification encourages girls to work collaboratively and confidently as both part of a team and as an individual. The course is both a practical subject and an academic one with the course being taught through weekly cookery and theory lessons. This holistic approach provides the girls with applied practical learning encouraging an enquiring mind and awareness of real-world challenges. During the practical coursework element of the course (NEA – worth 50% of the GCSE) girls will demonstrate precision, critical thinking and strategy planning. The girls are given set briefs from the examination board and are then allowed freedom to explore, create and cook exciting dishes.

Where will the course take the girls?

Although not essential, this GCSE is a great starting point for those who wish to continue their culinary journey with the Leiths L3 professional qualification offered in the Sixth Form. This course also contains cross curricular links with Biology, Chemistry and Sport, supporting a wide range of interests amongst the girls and their future careers. When considering future pathways, this course enables girls to show that they have confidence to take action, good time-management skills and perseverance.

Geography

What will the girls learn?

In AQA GCSE Geography, students will explore the world and the interactions between people and the environment. They will study physical geography, including natural hazards, as well as ecosystems, rivers, and coasts. In human geography, they will investigate cities, the changing economic world, and resource management, focusing on challenges with food, water, and energy. Students practise map work, data interpretation, and decision-making, where they weigh up different solutions to real-world issues like flood management or sustainable energy use. Fieldwork is local and takes advantage of local issues such as the impact of urban regeneration.

Who is the course for?
GCSE Geography is ideal for curious students who enjoy asking questions and linking ideas across science and humanities. It’s well-suited to those who like debating global challenges, problem-solving, and exploring different viewpoints. Success requires a balance of extended writing and numerical skills, therefore, students who enjoy both essay-based work and data analysis will thrive. Geography connects well with subjects such as Biology and Maths, whilst also supporting future study in A Level Geography, Politics, or Economics.

History

Exam Board: CAIE

What will the girls learn?

The History IGCSE content involves a diverse range of topics and should have something to appeal to all girls. The course focusses mainly on 20th-Century history, examining the post WWI Versailles Settlement, The League of Nations, the origins of WWII and the United States 1918-41. Many themes provide opportunities to discuss current national and global issues. The course is superb for providing transferrable skills such as improving literacy, learning to construct arguments, write convincingly and analyse a huge range of source material to synthesise and evaluate arguments. The History Department places a high priority on teaching girls to think critically and aims to enrich the girls’ learning with various opportunities both in and outside the classroom.

Who is this course for?

This course will suit who enjoy studying humanity, the world, and thinking about the past and our future. There are many opportunities to relate events being studied to current affairs so girls who are interested in politics, economics and international relations are likely to find history stimulating. This is a literary subject but girls should be aware that their skills will develop over time as they mature and receive support. Many lessons involve debate so girls who enjoy argument tend to thrive. History is compatible with all other GCSE subjects and provides breadth for those focusing on sciences. Being able to express ideas clearly and persuasively is paramount in the world of work, and History IGCSE helps girls towards this.

Where will this course take the girls?

The rigour of history as a subject is highly valued. IGCSE History prepares the girls well for the transition to A Level through its focus on argument and literacy. Many girls choose to study History in the Sixth Form but those who do not will be left with a good understanding of the foundations of the modern world. History provides a superb platform for a wide range of careers such as law, politics, work in the media or management.

Mathematics

Exam Board: Edexcel (IGCSE)

What will the girls learn?
The Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics course covers number, algebra, geometry, statistics, and probability, sharpening problem-solving and logical reasoning. It connects maths to real-world contexts like finance and data analysis, equipping girls with practical skills. The course fosters critical thinking and clear communication of ideas. The Mathematics Department enhances learning through competitions and engaging activities beyond the classroom.

Who is this course for?
Perfect for girls who enjoy logical challenges, patterns, or puzzles, and those interested in maths, science, economics, or technology. With Foundation and Higher tiers, it caters to all abilities, supporting tailored progress. Girls who relish analytical thinking or practical problem-solving will shine. It complements all GCSEs, adding depth to sciences, humanities, or creative subjects.

Where will this course take the girls?
IGCSE Mathematics prepares girls for A Level Maths, Physics, Economics, or Computer Science. Its rigour unlocks careers in engineering, finance, data science, tech, or medicine. Even for those not pursuing mathematics further, the course develops logical thinking and numeracy, vital for success in higher education and diverse careers, including business, law, or creative industries.

Modern Foreign Languages: French and Spanish

What will the girls learn?
Girls can choose from either GCSE French or GCSE Spanish - or indeed can do both. Students gain the ability to communicate confidently in real-life situations, from ordering food in a café to expressing their opinions on current issues (environment, world of work). They will learn to understand authentic spoken and written language, build a wide-ranging vocabulary, and learn key grammar structures. Lessons are interactive and dynamic; students will role-play travel scenarios, debate global topics, and discover cultural traditions.

Who are these courses for?
This course is ideal for students who are curious about the world and want to develop practical language skills alongside cultural awareness. A willingness to participate, practise, and experiment with speaking is essential. French and Spanish complement a broad range of subjects, including History, English, Geography, and Business, and suit learners who enjoy problem-solving and creative communication.

Music

Exam Board: Pearson Edexcel

What will the girls learn?

The music course introduces students to a diverse range of musical styles and practices from around the world. With focus on four areas of study, the listening and appraising unit develops an appreciation of instrumental and vocal music, music from stage and screen, and musical fusions through close analysis of eight set works spanning from Bach to Queen. Students will learn about the context of musical compositions and the link between cultural and aesthetic movements in addition to expanding their musical vocabulary, listening skills and awareness of the role music plays in society. Through performance, students will develop their confidence in solo work and enhance skills of communication and musical adaptability in ensemble work. Composition allows students to unleash their creativity in two short pieces, one written to a given brief.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for anyone with a love of music and desire to extend their creative, listening and performing skills. The multi-disciplined nature of the subject makes it both academically challenging and creatively rewarding, providing an all-round learning experience. High levels of analysis are required, but students receive significant support with the content and the examination paper consists of multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions and one 12-mark extended answer making it accessible to all. There is plenty of opportunity for self-expression in the NEA modules, and lessons encourage high levels of debate and self-evaluation; developing the whole person.

Music is highly valued due to its unique combination of the academic and creative. The skills honed through further study of music include resilience, dedication, performance, listening and literacy making musicians highly sought after in the workplace. For those wishing to study A Level Music it provides the perfect foundation but is equally useful for those wishing to study in any field including science, languages, performing and creative arts and humanities. Musicians can often be found in various careers including those dedicated to the subject but also TV and media, journalism, law and medicine.

Physics

GCSE Physics prepares students for the AQA public examinations while nurturing curious, reflective, and agile thinkers. Designed for girls with an eye for patterns, a desire to understand how the universe works, and a willingness to persevere through challenge, this course builds on the strong practical foundations established at Key Stage 3. The subject appeals to girls with a computational and analytical way of viewing the world, while also providing transferable skills in logic, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Taught in a bespoke, interleaved fashion at Tudor Hall School, the course encourages regular recall and consolidation, helping pupils forge meaningful links between topics and apply concepts laterally. Religious Studies (RS)

What will the girls learn?

The AQA Religious Studies GCSE comprises two components: Religions and Thematic Studies. You will study the following topics:

· Crime and Punishment

· War, Peace and Conflict

· Beliefs, teachings and practices in Christianity

· Beliefs, teachings and practices in Islam

Who is the course for?

For many students RS provides a basis for thinking deeply about ultimate questions. Therefore, you should be willing to consider and explore other points of view and be a seeker and lover of wisdom. The examination is all written based, comprising two examination papers each of 1 hour 45 minutes duration.

Where will this course take the girls?

A qualification in RS develops skills in logical thinking, evaluation, independence of judgement and debating. RS is a highly regarded academic subject and is the foundation for several A Level options: Religious Studies, Psychology, History, History of Art, Sciences (Medicine), Law, Criminology, Sociology and Economics. RS also demonstrates a willingness to learn about others and to think openly, which is a requirement in all aspects of life, work and recreation.

Textiles

What will the girls learn?

To design and manipulate fabric with a better understanding of purpose and techniques and use these skills to develop skills in applique, reverse applique, hand and machine embroidery, foiling, and bubble felting.

To develop a curiosity for textile artists, fashion designers and techniques in the textiles world which link to their chosen theme.

To learn how to stretch their imagination using their research to develop bespoke ideas.

To learn how to plan and refine their ideas and skills to realise their intentions within a given timescale.

Who is the course for?

If you like exploring different ideas, enjoy hands-on practical activities and are keen to turn your creativity into a garment, as well as explore the possibility of mixing different media, you would enjoy this course. You need to work hard and be patient to create the necessary body of work and complete detailed primary and secondary research to demonstrate understanding of your chosen topic. You need to focus on attention to detail as well as understand the importance of what makes a successful design before taking risks and using your imagination to create an exciting portfolio of work which expresses your own ideas and demonstrates the skills you have accomplished.

Where will this course take the girls?

Creativity, thinking outside the box and problem solving are all skills sought after by employers. More specifically, this course will develop the skills to succeed at a further level and support future applications to become Textile designers. After a GCSE in Textiles, you will have the confidence to advance to A Level, which will further improve your skills for a degree course and a future career in Textiles or Fashion.
