Every Tudor girl has a different story, and is known and valued. Being a boarder at Tudor Hall offers a real second home, with the opportunity to develop life-long skills including empathy, diplomacy and tolerance under the care and guidance of House staff who are experts in the needs of their year group. 

Our horizontal boarding structure, in which pupils live with their whole year groups, provides an environment where girls develop a strong sense of loyalty and inclusivity through community living, form resilient, long-lasting friendships and support each other with kindness.

While our full boarding ethos continues to be at the core of Tudor life, we recognise that more adaptable boarding options can be useful for busy families, particularly in the first years of senior school. Explore our new family-focused options in Years 7, 8 and 9 from September 2025, below.

Boarding supports the building of self confidence in meeting life’s inevitable ups and downs, enabling girls to make everyday decisions for themselves, take steps towards self-reliance, increased resourcefulness and resilience: essentially inspiring them to be bold whilst being supported by our wider pastoral team.

Lower School boarding (Years 7 & 8)

Girls can choose from our family-focused boarding options:

• Full Boarding – 7 nights a week

• Weekly Boarding (Sunday evening/Monday morning to Friday afternoon)

• Occasional Boarding, up to two nights, Monday to Thursday (subject to availability)

• Day

Todd (Year 7) and IIs (Year 8) boarders live together in Todd House, a cosy cottage on the edge of the campus and a homely and nurturing environment that allows girls new to boarding to settle into the rhythms and routines of boarding life.

Todd and IIs day girls are dropped off at Todd House in the mornings and all Todds use this house as their base during the school day. To allow a sense of progression, IIs day girls and boarders have a dedicated common room in Main School during the day.

- Core education will take place Monday to Friday, allowing pupils the option to go home after school on Friday, returning either Sunday evening or Monday morning

- Exciting Saturday morning programme of educational enrichment activities to which all girls are welcome

- Weekend activities continue with a wide range of interesting, challenging and fun activities for boarders and day girls alike

- The majority of Lower School sports fixtures will be during the school week, and occasionally on Saturday mornings

Boarding in IIIs (Year 9)

From September 2025, our family-focused option enables IIIs pupils to go home after lessons and commitments on Saturday if they wish, returning either Sunday evening or Monday morning.

- Full boarding, partial boarding (two consecutive nights Monday to Thursday) and day options continue

- A closed weekend at the start and end of every term (and before the October Half Term in the Autumn Term) will continue for the IIIs to the Upper Sixth, when all girls take part in a range of community-based activities

- Full weekend programme of co-curricular activities remains a core feature of Tudor life

- This adaptation will follow pupils as they move up through the school, from September 2026

Partial boarding option for IIIs (Year 9) to UVI (Year 13)

While the vast majority of girls at Tudor are full boarders, we also continue to offer all day girls from IIIs (Year 9) to UVI (Year 13) the option of partial boarding: the opportunity to board for a fixed two consecutive nights each week between Monday and Thursday. Partial boarding gives greater flexibility for the day girls to stay on nights when there are late sporting activities or drama commitments and is a good way to gradually introduce boarding while continuing to nurture the bond between the year group. Exact nights are confirmed by the Housemistress at the start of each term, and are available dependant on bed space.

Exeats and Open Exeat stays

Of course, time away from school is also important, and there is generally one full exeat each half term; an exeat means that girls leave school from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening - they might choose to go home, or to stay with friends, family or their guardian. Some shorter exeats are permitted across the year.

Pupils who wish to stay at school during exeat weekends (such as international pupils) will be able to do so; school will remain open and 'Open Exeat' stays will incur an additional charge.
