Life Drawing

| Sophie Everiss - personal work |
The sixth form art students recently enjoyed a day of life drawing with a Tutor, Kate and model (Miles) from the Royal Academy London. Our task was to do a number of sketches that were timed. Some were a few minutes where we only had a chance to do quick outlines and others were longer, where we were encouraged to look at shadow and tone. Kate kept saying: “Dart around the page. Fill it in. Explore the page. Hover above the page. Keep moving!” We were expecting a young, fit, tanned model, however, we ended up with (a very talented) ballet dancer and actor, who could hold poses really well! After the initial nervousness died down I actually started to create some good sketches. Our art teacher, Miss Lees, inspired us even more by joining in. We are so looking forward to having Miles come back some day and he emailed us to say how much he had enjoyed the event.

The sixth form have decided to continue life drawing as we found it so interesting and helpful. We will continue having sessions every Thursday using models from the group taking World Challenge, enabling them to raise money for their travelling experience.
