Day girls are encouraged to join in as much as possible and they are always welcome to join boarders for weekend and school activities.
All girls who have joined the school between Todd and the Vs are put into a “group”, managed by a Group Master or Mistress. Each week there are two “group” meetings of about 25 minutes and these take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays before lessons.
In these meetings, we talk about a whole range of things :
- “pastoral” issues such as friendships,
- “academic” matters such as study skills,
- examination results and reading of reports,
- group activities such as planning the annual group prayers and Lent appeal.
Day girls arrive by 8.30 am and finish at 6.20 pm. On a Saturday the day starts at 8.55 am and finishes at 12.30 pm.
Being a Day Girl in Todd
We all arrived at 8.20 am on the first day of the Autumn Term, looking very smart and feeling nervous, but excited. We each met our “keepers” who were to show us what to do and where to go over the next few days. They were very helpful.
The first teachers that we met were Mrs Benlalam and Mrs Keyte, our group teachers. They were really friendly and helpful, which made us all feel a lot calmer. They talked to us about music lessons, getting to lessons on time and where to find everything around the school. We all found this very useful.
We then had our first lesson at Tudor Hall. After lessons we had a delicious lunch and pudding, then we went back to the classroom to talk and get to know each other. At the end of the day, after our last lesson, we were all keen to get home and tell our parents what a great day we had had and about all the new people we had met.
Catherine and I still love being day girls but we know that we might want to board one day.
