Girls preparing for GCSE and A level music gave a wonderful recital demonstrating the breadth of talent in the music department.
The concert began with the Vs who performed a range of music for voice and piano. Eleanor gave us a beautiful rendition of 'Not a Day Goes By', and we enjoyed 'An Die Musik' from Kitty and an atmospheric performance of 'Ain't No Sunshine' from Olivia. Fedora and Jasmine performed Brahms' 'Intermezzo in A Minor' and 'Tarantella' respectively, which were played expressively and with assurance. Members of the IVs then did themselves proud, with a confident piano performance of Hook's 'Minuet' by Delilah and an impressive 'Ground After the Scotch Humour' (Matteis) played on the violin by Izzy. Working towards her music A level, LVI former Poppy took on the challenge of the 2nd Movement of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto which she played with confidence and control, an inspiration to the IVs and Vs listening and enjoyed by all. To finish the concert, we listened to excerpts of the recordings of the GCSE Ternary compositions created by the Vs. Although these are a work in progress, it was interesting to see the diversity and creativity expressed in this work.
We would like to thank all the visiting staff in the music department who have given their time and support with instrumental and vocal preparation for GCSE and A level, and particularly Mrs Benlalam for being so generous with her skills in accompaniment. Finally, our thanks to Ms Lea-James for her endless enthusiasm and for giving us the chance to fulfil our love for music at Tudor.
