Printer friendly page Email this article

The new year began well for the Vs with the snow clearing for them to visit Birmingham University for a series af maths related activities.

The girls enjoyed a tour of the university before having a lecture about both mechanical and chemical engineering and careers relating to these fields of study. They then had presentations by female mathematicians Dr Olga Maleva and Dr Sharon Stephen about life as a mathematician and about how maths can be used in various careers and combined with various other degree subjects.  The girls returned to school full of new ideas and possibilities determined not to accept the stereotype that maths is for boys!
