| Science is always fun ... |
What has Tudor Hall got to offer?
Well, first of all, it’s a small and friendly school where everyone seems to know everyone else. That helps you a lot because it means that the teachers can tell when you’re struggling and need extra help (or when you’re not working hard enough, unfortunately).
There’s lots of fun stuff to do, both in and out of lessons. For instance, we have different musical activities, lots of plays and a fair number of interesting visits each term. We have many different clubs, which include: dress making, science, junior philosophy, book, aerobics, French literature and dog walking.
Of course, we also do sports and games: lacrosse, netball and riding, for example.
We have ICT lessons where we learn about computers and how to use them. We all do the CLAIT course and work towards gaining certificates and diplomas in the various ICT skills.
GCSE
The compulsory subjects at GCSE are:
English Language,
English Literature,
a Modern Foreign Language (French, German or Spanish usually),
Maths,
Science,
and a Humanities subject (History, Geography or RS).
We then have to choose 3 (or sometimes 4) extra subjects from a list that includes:
Art,
Design and Technology,
Drama,
Latin,
Music,
PE
and Textiles.
Sixth Form
Most girls stay on at Tudor Hall after the Vs (Year 11) and go into the Sixth Form.
We get a lot of advice from teachers and careers experts about what we should do as our four AS subjects in the Lower 6th. We get a free choice from the 20 subjects that are available, though of course it’s sensible to choose those that we enjoy and will be useful for our chosen careers.
There are also GCSE subjects you can do in the 6th form: Dance, Italian, Japanese and Russian. City and Guilds Home Economics is also available.
Sixth form life is not all study, though – girls are involved in Community Service, the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, World Challenge as well as a range of team and individual activities.
The School's Aims and Objectives
We aim:
- to provide a high standard of education for girls aged 11-18 in a boarding environment
- to develop the pupils as individuals with regard to the whole person; their intellectual, physical and creative potential and their emotional and spiritual development
- to encourage girls to use their talents for the benefit of the community around them whether family, school or the wider world, in the spirit of the motto "Habeo ut Dem" - I have that I may give
- to equip pupils for life after school with the foundations of sound values and faith which are based on Christian teaching but not exclusive of the religions or traditions of others.
-
We hope that while you are here you will be able to help us to achieve the school's objectives:
- to create an environment in which you will feel happy and secure
- to provide a broad and yet rigorous education that will allow you to fulfill your potential
- to teach you to love knowledge for its own sake
- to give you the opportunity to make friends for life
- to increase your self-confidence, self-esteem and sense of responsibility
- to hone the skills that will enable you to find a rewarding career and to make you a caring, valuable and valued member of society.
As within a family, the school aims to run on trust; we increase responsibilities and privileges as girls develop confidence and maturity. We attach great importance to our Courtesy Code which sets clear guidelines for behaviour within the community.
