A winter scene - Main Building

Our aim at Tudor Hall is to educate each individual girl to the very best of her aptitude and potential, both intellectually and personally, so that she will be able to rise to the varied challenges and opportunities that she will be offered both at school and beyond.

The curriculum offers a broad academic education coupled with many opportunities to participate in musical activities, drama productions, educational trips and visits, numerous clubs and societies and a wide range of sports and games.

The academic curriculum is reinforced with a Thinking Skills programme and a Study Skills programme intended to produce independent, analytical and logical thinkers capable of high-level problem solving.

All pupils take the CLAIT (Computer Literacy And Information Technology) Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications throughout their time at Tudor Hall which equips them with ICT skills essential in today’s world.

Pupils who are working in their second language are supported by our English as a Foreign Language specialist.

That we succeed in our aims is reflected in our excellent Value Added scores: those most recently available place us in the top 5% in the country.

At all key decision points such as GCSE and AS choices we work closely with parents to achieve the most appropriate courses for your daughters. The annual timetable is tailored to the specific option choices made by the girls and not on any existing blocking system.

GCSE

At GCSE girls are required to study English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Double Certificated Sciences (or the separate sciences), and a Humanity (chosen from History, Geography or Religious Studies) as a core curriculum.  A Modern Foreign Language is also compulsory except for a few exceptions.  Breadth of study encompassing the girl’s own strengths and interests is achieved by the provision of a wide range of additional options.  Most girls choose three subjects to bring the total number taken to nine.  Very able pupils may consider choosing four.

The curriculum also includes lessons in Physical Education, Cookery and Personal, Health and Social Education.

In the Vs (Year 11) the Independent Schools Careers Organisation aptitude tests are available so that girls can choose their AS and A2 levels wisely, bearing in mind possible career paths.

The academic options offered at GCSE are

Sixth Form
Most girls choose to remain at Tudor Hall for their Sixth Form and will choose four AS subjects for the Lower VI programme of study, after close consultation with the subject teachers and careers advisers.  The choice is unrestricted and the timetable is then structured around these choices.  Twenty subjects are offered in the Sixth Form.  For the ab initio subjects no previous knowledge or experience is required, while for others a proven record of achievement and a high GCSE grade is stipulated.

It is very important that your daughter chooses those subjects about which she is enthusiastic and that she enjoys and it is essential that those subjects support entry requirements for further education and career plans.  The careers advisers offer guidance and help with research.

There is also a programme of lectures or activities on Contemporary Issues.

There are ab initio GCSE subjects on offer in Dance, Italian, Japanese and Russian.
