Three of our Fours, Mrs Jones and Mrs Pym flew out of Heathrow airport to compete in Flaine, France, at the British Schoolgirls Ski races. When we arrived, we deposited bags and went straight to get skies. Once this more difficult task was achieved we spent the last few hours of the day investigating the area and the shops – and of course eating supper.
Sunday – Giant slalom training. With 48 teams competing it became very difficult to work out which were our skiers. On Monday it was race day. We were placed 31st as a team after the morning’s races. Afternoon came and we headed off to take part in the parallel slalom where two teams compete with each other over a very short slalom course. A very exciting first race for us against Stowe, who unfortunately narrowly beat us. As the competition wore on the standard of the other teams shone through with a very tight final between Millfield A and Aiglon A. |
The second race day the sun was out and the girls were all fired up and ready to beat some of our rival schools. With the first three girls falling over on their run we were a bit worried, but Tudor girls always do well and they completed the course with no errors or disqualifications!
We came 26th place in all, a fantastic result for the girls’ first competition out there. Congratulations go to A Kaye, C D’Arcy Clark and M Simpson. Look out for us next year; times and places to be beaten. |
