Introduction to Glaciation models
Printer friendly page Email this article

The Upper VIth have built these models, that you see in front of you, to display the diverse and picturesque landforms that are a result of glaciation. We have displayed depositional landforms, such as moraines and erratics and erosional landforms, such as hanging valleys and corries.

First, each girl drew a rough sketch of the landforms they would like to mould in order to plan the layout of the model. Then the hard work of the modelling commenced. There were many dramas of collapsing valley sides and wonky moraines but eventually six masterpieces were produced. Finally painting and glazing finished the artwork off to produce mini glacial landscapes such as those in Snowdonia and The Lake District.

The whole process produced a useful visual aid and reminded us of the different landforms of glaciation and their formation.
