Jasper Green
Dr David Kelly
On 19th November, Jasper Green from York University came to give a talk to the sixth form and GCSE students from Tudor Hall School, as well as visiting students from BGN, Banbury School, Chipping Norton School and Sibford School. This was the first of a series of lectures arranged by the Tudor Hall School Sixth Form Science Committee.

The talk was about bacterial proteins called stomatins which are also present in eukaryotic cells. However, sometimes they may be absent in red blood cells, which can contribute to a particular human disease. We learned about molecular biology techniques, which were used by him to identify the genes, which coded for this protein, as well as about evolutionary biology – in terms of how eukaryotic cells evolved prokaryotic cells.

We look forward to our next Science Lecture at the beginning of December on the Science of Sexual Attraction by Dr David Kelly of Cardiff University.
