Day 1

The 2s activity weekend in The Gower, Wales was a first for Tudor. So with some trepidation we set off to Borfa House youth hostel where we met our instructors Chris, Devin, Paddy and Tony.

After lunch we set off to the limestone beach for our first activity – Rock scrambling.  Here we learnt the basics of safe rock climbing and were taught the technique of ‘spotting’ which is guiding the climber and ensuring that they do not fall.  We also had a bit of time to play some beach games like ‘catching the dragon’ – this was great fun.

Days 2 and 3

On the second and third days we were split into two groups.  One group did climbing and abseiling and the other did coasteering. After lunch we met up to do orienteering.

We were all given climbing equipment and set off down to the coast where were we did a few tasks to test our balance.  One included finding two flat stones and placing them on the backs of our hands and then walking around without dropping them. It was really difficult!

We then made our way to the wave-cut platform from which we could try two climbs and a long abseil.  We had to really stretch far to reach some of the foot and handholds but it was well worth it when we got to the top! The abseiling was quite scary but great fun too!

Day 1

Coasteering

After struggling to get our wetsuits on, we made our way down to a beach where we came to a natural limestone pool. The views were amazing! After Paddy and Tony showed us what to do, we took it in turns to jump into the pool from the edge, each time making our way up to a higher jump. By the time we had made it to the highest jump we were really getting into it and were feeling less scared, although it was a really long way down!

Orienteering

There were two sessions of orienteering.  One in a forest in the day and one, on the sand dunes near the youth hostel at dusk.  The forest session taught us the basics.  We set off in small groups from a meeting point and had to find flags that had been put out.  Some of them were really hard to find!

In the evening we navigated our way across the sand dune looking for clues. We also had some time to play games like running up and down the dunes!

By the end of the day three, we were exhausted! We had done so much and had such a great time.  It is something about Tudor that we will always remember.
